  • The myth of credit card is that you have to prove you have the power of spending. Then you will have the record of credit. It means no spending, no credit. When we applied for the mortagage loan, I was invisble in US system, because I used cash only. When you are ready, you should apply a credit card to do your necessary spending like gasoline, grocery and to build up your credit gradually in USA for your future credit record.
  • My dear friend, that is so right you said. I have credit cards for months as authorized user for grocery shopping and other shopping by myself but after realizing more, I should even use my credit cards more when we go out eating and spending as well. That`s a good point. Then in your case your mortgage loan still applies with your husband`s FICO?

  • Our siutation is the worst one. My husband is a &quottypical&quot American as you described. Very sloppy at paying bill on time, and rather reserve the cash he has and pay the minimum of credit card. So his credit is not good. and I have no credit. It took our loan officer a long time to figure out how to help us to get the loan. I have submitted a lot of paper to prove that I have good job and steady income when I was in Taiwan, and David, fortunately, though got bad credit, but a steady job and income for 8 years. We got the loan finally, but with not good interest rate. Advised by our loan officer, thought not satisfactory for the interst rate, but acceptable. We will refiance later when we build up our credit by paying our home loan later regularly. Cross our fingers. Hopefully, by getting this house loan, we have a big jump at our credit record.
  • Now because of the FED rate got lowered, the mortgage rate is becoming lower too. You may talk to your loan officer to see if refinance a lower rate lately makes sense to your case. That is what my husband suggested Vivian too when we visited them days ago.
Hope step by step your record will get better then could pay less the interests. Very good luck to you two....
